Celebrating alumna Jan Van Dyke, MA Dance Education '67

June 25, 2015

Jan Van Dyke was the first person admitted to GW’s MA in Dance Program founded in 1965 (the year that I joined the faculty at GWU).

Jan is an incredible artist and visionary.  She was the founder of Dance Project that became Dance Place when she turned the organization over to Carla Perlo.  Subsequently Jan got a Ph.D. and taught on the faculty at UNC until her retirement.  She founded an important arts organization in North Carolina that did an annual state-wide festival and many more things.  She was a great influence on dance here in DC.

Please take the time to read about her work in North Carolina.
