  • The youth from Bokamoso, South Africa will be in residence in DC from Feb 1-6.  South Africa Project performances Friday and Saturday, Feb 5, 6. This year’s workshop with GW’s Global Women’s Institute will involve themes of sexual assault and gender.
  • Leslie’s ends her sabbatical in December at Al AKhawayn University in Ifrane, Morrocco, where she will initiate a project interviewing students about changing gender roles/expectations in Morrocco.

    In anticipation of Miami City Ballet’s new production of George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, we invite you to join MCB Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez and artist Michele Oka Doner for an in-depth discussion of the confluence of ballet and the visual arts, with performance excerpts by Miami City Ballet dancers.

    Moderated by costume and design historian Tanya Williams Wetenhall.

    Description:

    Three dance artists, Felicia Avalos, Anthony Gongora, and Giselle Ruzany, from Maida Withers Dance Construction Company, perform interactions between the real and virtual, the dancers, and the guests during the Gala openings of the WPA 40th Anniversary Celebration in new gallery in the JBG Companies’ Atlantic Plumbing development at 8th and V street NW, in the U Street Corridor, Washington, DC.

    Full body digitally printed morph suits are created by Amelia Zhang, Rhode Island School of Design in collaboration with Brian Kane, respected visual artist and fashion technologist from Boston. The suits are completely covered with custom digital photography of persons other than the dancers which simulates the “pixelated” effect of digital images, bringing a privacy enhanced digital version of a real person moving in the real world, and interacting with real space.
