Maida Withers receives White Marble Award at Mykonos Biennale

Maida with Pelican
July 24, 2015

Maida received the white marble award at the Mykonos Biennale, July 2-7, 2015 in Greece for the showing of her film, TUK (Tukuhnikivatz).  The Pelican was created and awarded by Lydia Venieri, the founding artistic director of the Biennale.  Venieri comments, “The original famous pet of Mykonos was named Petros. Once Petros passed away Jackie O gave us Irini as a present.  Irini was the pelican I used to model the awards.”

TUK, with dancers as moving pictographs and petroglyphs on the red rocks of Utah, looked stunning projected nightly on the white curved wall in historic Mykonos Town.  It was such an honor for me to be part of this amazing festival – my first trip to Greece.  It was exciting to be participating in the Biennale at the time of the Greek vote/referendum.
